In many cases, there are several foods that children should minimize or avoid, such as sugary foods that can cause cavities, regardless of whether or not they are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Children with braces, however, should also avoid hard foods that can break or damage wires and brackets, as well as sticky foods that can get caught between brackets and wires. Nail biting, pencil and pen chewing and chewing on foreign objects should also be avoided.
